Goal Setting and Student Perceptions of Learning

It is important to understand what students and teachers are thinking and feeling about their educational experiences in terms of the goal orientations and perceptions.  Children at an inner-city Maryland public school were asked to complete a student survey, which is shown below.  The results of the survey were used to improve the instruction based upon the needs of the students as determined by the results of the student surveys.  At the same time, the teacher participated in a survey to measure her perceptions of goals in the classroom and the approaches to learning.  The results were also used to impact instruction to promote student achievement.

Please feel free to read the following research paper in its entirety to learn more.
